Box Score 2 HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest baseball team dropped both games of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Ashland at Laborers' Local 41 Field inside Dowling Park Saturday. The Eagles won the first game, 11-1, then won the second game, 4-3.
Before the games, PNW honored their five seniors for all their hard work and dedication to the Pride baseball team. Austin Kordik (West Chicago, Ill./Community), Brendan Kelly (Grandville, Mich./Grandville), Joe Davi (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), Jade Doyle (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Kyle Flessner (Thomasboro, Ill./Rantoul Township) thank you for your commitment to the PNW baseball team during your time here.
GAME 2: AU 4, PNW 3
PNW scored first in the second game right away in the bottom of the first inning. Ray Hansen (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) singled to right field which scored Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) to make it 1-0.
Ashland responded with two runs a few innings later in the fourth to take the 2-1 lead. The Pride were able to get those two right back to take the 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame.
Anthony Agne (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) singled up the middle, scoring Hansen to tie the score at 2. Kordik was able to show his speed on the basepads, grounding into a forceout that scored Hunter Ryan (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) which was a near doubleplay to give the Pride the lead in the fourth.
The Eagles would tie it at three in the following inning then took the 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. The score would hold with AU coming out on top, 4-3.
Kelly came in the seventh inning and threw a scoreless frame and recorded a strikeout.
GAME 1: AU 11, PNW 1
Ashland got on the scoreboard first in the opening game with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to go ahead 2-0.
Hilbrich was able to get one back in the bottom half of the frame to make it 2-1, unfortunately that was the only run PNW would come up with in the game.
The Eagles added one run in back-to-back innings with those being the fifth and sixth to go ahead 4-1.
AU busted the lead open and the game with seven runs in the seventh inning to go ahead 11-1. The score would hold with the Eagles winning 11-1.
Starter Chad Patrick (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) suffered the loss (4-4) on the mound after going five innings, giving up five hits, allowing three runs (all earned) and striking out five.
PNW (20-24, 15-12 GLIAC) and Ashland (37-9, 17-6 GLIAC) conclude their series and regular season tomorrow starting at 12 p.m. CT. Both teams are secured for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament which takes place May 9-12. The Eagles clinched the regular season GLIAC Title and will have the No. 1 seed. PNW's seeding is still to be determined as the Pride will either end up the third or fifth seed.
