Pride Baseball drops doubleheader at home to #18 Wayne Sate

On Sunday, Purdue Northwest Baseball faced off against #18 Wayne State in a GLIAC doubleheader, unfortunately losing both games. The first game concluded with a score of 9-1, while the second game ended with a score of 6-2.

Game One – L, 6-2 (7 Innings)

  • Freshman Blake Newell (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) started on the mound for the Pride throwing five innings striking out five.
  • L. Tobel led the Warriors with two hits.
  • A. Potts started and threw four innings, striking out two for the Warriors.
  • In the 2nd inning, Purdue Northwest's J. Smith singled up the middle, bringing in a runner from scoring position to give Purdue Northwest an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Pride extended their lead in the 3rd inning when a runner stole third base and scored on an error by the catcher, adding another run to their tally.
  • Wayne State responded in the 4th inning with a single to left field, driving in a runner for their first run of the game, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
  • In the 6th inning, Wayne State staged a comeback, with a walk with the bases loaded, allowing a runner to score, and tying the game at 2-2. Another run was scored as a player walked, bringing in another runner for Wayne State's go-ahead run. A subsequent error allowed two unearned runs to score, giving Wayne State a 4-2 lead.
  • Wayne State extended their lead in the 7th inning when a player reached first base on an error by the shortstop, allowing another runner to score sealing a 6-2 victory.
