Pride Baseball drops tough battle against Saint Leo

Box Score The Purdue Northwest Baseball team traveled to Saint Leo, Florida, on Wednesday to face off against the Lions of Saint Leo University. Despite a valiant effort, the Pride fell short, losing the game 8-11.

  • C. Lefebvre started and pitched 2.1 innings for the Lions and struck out three batters.
  • In the 3rd inning, Montgomery triple to left center drove in three runs for Purdue Northwest, with Ballard, Holland, and Johnson crossing the plate for a 3-0 lead.
  • Montgomery then scored on a balk, extending Purdue Northwest's lead to 4-0.
  • Saint Leo responded in the 3rd inning with a single to center field, bringing in a run, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
  • A throwing error by Purdue Northwest allowed Saint Leo to tie the game at 4-4.
  • In the 4th inning, M. Scott homered to left center, bringing in three runs for Saint Leo, extending their lead to 8-4.
  • Purdue Northwest fought back in the 5th inning as Matulich reached on a fielder's choice, allowing a run to score, making it 8-5.
  • Matthys then singled to right field, bringing in two more runs, narrowing the deficit to 8-7.
  • Saint Leo added another run in the 5th inning, extending their lead to 9-7.
  • In the 7th inning, Matulich singled to right field, driving in a run, bringing Purdue Northwest within one run at 8-9.
  • However, Saint Leo added insurance runs in the 8th inning, ultimately securing an 11-8 victory.
