Baseball drops GLIAC opener at Saginaw Valley State

The Purdue Northwest baseball team dropped their GLIAC opener at Saginaw Valley State falling in Game 1, 7-1, and slipping just short in Game 2, 3-2.

The Breakdown
  • Freshman Jax Kalemba (Chicago, Ill./Andrean) led the Pride with two hits including one double.
  • Junior Luke Montgomery (Orland Park, Ill./St. Laurence High School) added one hit and one RBI.
  • Junior Sam Shively (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) started on the mound for Purdue Northwest and pitched all six innings.
  • Watkins led Saginaw Valley State with two hits.
  • McLaren pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals and struckout six batters.
  • Saginaw Valley State scored three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Cardinals added four more runs in the second, fourth, and sixth inning to extend their lead to 7-0.
  • The Pride scored their lone run in the seventh inning and fall in the end, 7-1.

  • Junior Brad Miller (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) led the Pride with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Montgomery, junior Beldon Glasgow (Markle, Ind./Norwell), and senior Jack Gallagher (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North High School) chipped in one hit each.
  • Freshman Conor Pangburn () started in the circle for the Pride and pitched the first six innings. He notched five strikeouts.
  • Schweiger led Saginaw Valley State with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Merillat started for the Cardinals and pitched the first eight innings recording six strikeouts.
  • Both teams were held scoreless in the first five innings of the game.
  • Saginaw Valley State scored the first runs in the six inning taking a 3-0 lead.
  • The Pride recorded two runs in the ninth inning but the comeback fell just short losing 3-2.
