Pride fall short against Saint Leo and Eckerd.

The Purdue Northwest baseball team traveled to Saint Leo and St. Petersburg to take on Saint Leo University and Eckerd University in same day doubleheader event. The Pride would drop both games losing the first to Saint Leo 3-8 and the second to Eckerd 4-3.

The Basics
  • Records: Purdue Northwest (3-9), Saint Leo (11-10), Eckerd (10-6)
  • Location: Saint Leo and St. Petersburg
  • Fell short in both games.

Game 1, vs. Saint Leo - L, 8-3 (9 innings)
The Breakdown
  • Graduate Ray Hilbrich led the Pride with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Junior Luke Montgomery also contributed two hits
  • Sam Shively (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) started on the mound for the Pride pitching 6.2 innings and recording six strikeouts.
  • Mass led Saint Leo with two hits and an RBI.
  • Lashutka started and pitched three innings for the Lions and tallied seven strikeouts.
  • The Pride would strike first in the first inning from a Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) two run homer to right field.
  • Saint Leo would get their offense rolling in the third inning as they added 5 runs to take a 5-2 lead.
  • Each team would play great defense and keep each other from scoring until the seventh when Saint Leo would hit a solo homer to give them a 6-2 lead.
  • The Pride would add another run in the eighth with a Jonathan Sabotnik () solo homerun.
  • Saint Leo would add two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth and close out the game in the ninth to secure an 8-3 victory over the Pride.
 
Game 2, vs. Eckerd - L, 4-3 (9 innings)
The Breakdown
  • Junior Tyler Nelson () and Junior Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel) would lead Purdue Northwest with two hits and an RBI each.
  • Hayden Matulich (San Jose, Calif./Pioneer) also contributed a hit as well as an RBI.
  • Junior William Roberts (Valparaiso, Ind./Washington Township) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched six innings striking out two.
  • Cox led Eckerd with two hits.
  • Brendan Lawry started for Eckerd and pitched three innings recording three strikeouts.
  • Eckerd would get on the board first in the second inning with a solo homerun.
  • The Pride would answer back in the third putting up two runs to take the lead.
  • However, Eckerd would immediately retake the lead in the bottom of the third as they put up two runs. Taking a 4-2 lead.
  • Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel) would hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to cut Eckerd's lead to one, 4-3.
  • The Pride would find many runs on base but could not find away to get them in to score which would inevitably lead to Eckerd securing a 4-3 victory.

  • The Pride next travel to Daytona Beach to take on Embry-Riddle University on Wednesday, March 15 in a doubleheader event to close out their Florida trip. Game time is set for 1:00 PM CT.
