Women's Basketball Hits Record High 18 Threes In Victory Over Davenport Saturday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team was on fire from behind the arc as they hit a season-high 18 three-pointers and their highest since 2016 as the Pride defeated Davenport, 80-63, at DU Student Center, Saturday.

The Pride (3-18, 1-14 GLIAC) were led by freshman Kelli Damman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) who scored 23 points, which was a career high, including five threes. Junior Bayley Goodman (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) had a season-high 21 points and a career best seven trifectas. Sophomore Tayler Vauters (Rockville, Ind./Riverton Parke) added 16 points in the victory.

Davenport led 13-9 midway through the first period then sophomore Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) nailed a three-pointer and freshman Brittany Barnard (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) hit a running layup which helped PNW to go on a 13-6 run to end the quarter PNW leading 21-19.

PNW caught fire from three-point land early in the second quarter, after Vauters and Goodman hit back-to-back treys to give the Pride a 27-21 lead with 8:50 left in the first half. Damman and Nennig hit back-to-back buckets to put PNW ahead 35-27 with 3:45 left in the second quarter. PNW went into the halftime break leading 39-33.

After a jumper by Vauters to make it 41-33 in favor of the Pride to start the second half, DU made a 7-0 run to cut it to 1 with 7:44 left in the third quarter. PNW responded right back with a 8-0 run in the next two minutes to make it 49-40. Vauters scored the last seven points of the third quarter for either team with her three-pointer and back-to-back layups to give the Pride a 62-51 lead going into the final period.

Damman sealed the game for the Pride making consecutive three-pointers to give PNW a 68-54 lead with 8:23 in the game. Goodman hit her sixth three-pointer of the game which gave PNW a 80-63 lead under a minute left, their biggest lead of the night and the score would stand.

The Panthers (5-17, 3-12 GLIAC) were led by Jenna Falkenberg, who scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

PNW returns to action Thursday, February 14 as the Pride travel to the No. 11 team in the country Ashland, game time scheduled at 4:30 p.m. CT.
