Nennig, Vauters Record 1st Career Double Doubles in Loss Against LSSU

WESTVILLE, Ind. – Sophomores Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) and Tayler Vauters (Rockville, Ind./Riverton Parke) recorded their first career double-doubles as the Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Lake Superior State, 66-58, at the H.D. Kesling Gymnasium Saturday.

Vauters scored 11 points, grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds and had four steals. Nennig recorded 10 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds.

Junior Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) led the Pride in scoring for the game, picking up 13 points. Junior Bayley Goodman (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) picked up 12 points off the bench.

Nenning and Rhonehouse hit back-to-back baskets to give the Pride an early 5-0 lead. After being tied 11 with 2:24 left in the opening period, Rhonehouse hit consecutive three's which helped PNW go on a 10-2 run to be ahead 21-13 after the first quarter.

Vauters put PNW ahead 23-13 with 7:58 left in the first half with her trifecta.  Later on, Vauters hit another three-pointer to go ahead by 15 at the 5:59 mark in the second quarter, however LSSU made a 9-1 run to close out the half with the Pride leading 34-28 at the break.

Back-to-back layups by Nenning and Vauters started the second half put PNW ahead 38-28. The Lakers got right back in the game with nine unanswered points with the Pride winning 38-37 at the 4:34 mark in the third quarter.

Both teams went back and forth the final four minutes but PNW led 46-45 at the end of the third period. Goodman nailed back-to-back three-pointers to start the final quarter to put the Pride ahead 52-45.

However, Lake State had an answer going on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 53 with 6:38 to go in the game. Goodman put PNW back ahead 56-53 with another trifecta with 5:55 left in the game.

After that point, the Lakers closed out the game on a 13-2 run the last 5:55 to win the game 66-58.

PNW returns to action Thursday, February 28 as the Pride wrap up their 2018-2019 season to host Parkside on the Hammond Campus starting at 5 p.m. CT.
