Box Score ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest Men's Basketball team concluded their weekend on the road on Saturday, December 7 when they faced off against the Grand Valley State University Lakers, falling short with a final score of 53-78.
The Pride (3-5, 0-2 GLIAC) held the Lakers (8-1, 2-0 GLIAC) to a close first half until the last minute, when the Lakers surged their lead ahead, ending the first twenty minutes of play with the Pride trailing 24-35. No. 32 Jyrus Freels and No. 2 Gregory Boyle led in scoring with five points each on the scoresheet, followed closely by No. 12 Durante Lee with four.
"Obviously this was a tough weekend on the road for us," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "Just like Thursday, we had a solid first half, and then really struggled in the second half. We have to get better, simple as that. We need to shoot it better, we need to value the ball more, we need to make better reads, we need to communicate better on defense, and we need to handle adversity better. The guys have some time off to lock in on their academics before we play again in 10 days, and then we'll regroup and find out what kind of season we're going to have."
For the game, PNW was led on the scoresheet by No. 24 Jordan Doss with 12 points, Freels with nine points, and Boyle and No. 22 Gabe Toombs with seven points each. As a team, they shot 18-56 for field goals, 8-27 from behind the 3-point arc, and recorded 31 rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday, December 18 when they will take on East West University at the Westville campus. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. (CT).
