HAMMOND, Ind. — Sophomore Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) scored a career-high 33 points on 13-18 shooting and sophomore Tayler Vauters (Rockville, Ind./Riverton Parke) added 10 points as the Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team was unable to pick up the victory in their home game against Wayne State, 76-67, on Thursday.

After sophomore Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) hit a layup to cut it to 14-12 in favor of Wayne State after both teams went back-and-forth at the beginning of the game before Wayne State went on a run to end the quarter leading 21-16.

The Pride made an 8-0 run midway through the second quarter to cut it to a 32-30 after a layup by Nennig with 2:45 left in the period but the Warriors went into the halftime break up 34-32.

PNW tied the game at 34-all after the second half started with back-to-back baskets including a layup and a three-pointer to give the Pride a 41-39 lead with 7:01 in the third quarter.

Both teams traded baskets the next four minutes before Nennig nailed a three-pointer to give the Pride a 48-45 lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter.

Vauters hit back-to-back free throws to make it 55-54 Wayne State with 7:14 left in the game but that was the closest the Pride would get the rest of the way. PNW cut it to back to three as freshman Molly DeValkenaere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) hit a free throw with 5:08 left in the game.

The Warriors went on a 10-0 run the next two minutes to go ahead by 13 and Wayne State never looked back and was able to close out the contest 76-67.

PNW returns to action Saturday, January 12 as the Pride host the NCAA Division II Runner-Up Ashland on the Westville Campus starting at 3 p.m. which will follow the men's game.
