Women's Basketball Suffers Setback to Indianapolis Saturday

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team could not hold on to an early lead as the Pride suffered a loss at the John Friend Court inside the Fitness and Recreation Center against University of Indianapolis, 93-62, Saturday.

Sophomore Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) led the way with 15 points while sophomore Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) added 13 points in the loss.

Freshman Molly DeValkenere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) hit a jumper to put PNW ahead 8-2 with Allen then putting the Pride ahead 13-8 after nailing a three-pointer in the first quarter.

After Indianapolis went on a run to go ahead 20-17 with 1:46 left in the first quarter, Allen hit another three to tie the game at 20-all. 

PNW outscored Indianapolis 18-16 in the fourth quarter. Freshman Grace Ringel (South Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) hit a jumper and Karissa Hucke (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had a layup to end the game for PNW.

Indianapolis had three players in double figures and Taylor Drury led the way for the Greyhounds with 24 points.

PNW returns to action Thursday, January 3 to host a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game as the Pride host Saginaw Valley State on the Westville Campus starting at 5 p.m. CT.
