Softball swept by Davenport on the road

The Purdue Northwest softball team were swept by Davenport on the road in GLIAC play on Tuesday afternoon. The Pride fell in a heartbreaker in Game 1, 3-2, and couldn't get the offense going in Game 2, losing 6-0.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Sophomore Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) led the Pride going 3-of-4 at the plate with one double and one RBI.
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic), freshman Jadyn Ramer (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison), freshman Kylie Madura (Munster, Ind./Munster), and freshman Giuliana Giordano (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) each added one hit.
  • Freshman Rylan Gick (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) gained the start on the mound for the Pride and pitched a tremendous game for the Pride in a losing effort. She only gave up four hits, one earned run, and struckout eight batters. Gick also had a great game at the plate notching two hits.
  • Ally Prasnjak led Davenport with one hit and one RBI.
  • Hailey Whisman started in the circle for the Panthers pitching all seven innings to earn the win. She finished allowing one runs off nine hits with two strikeouts.
  • The Pride scored the first run of the game in the third inning off an RBI single from Fair to go up 1-0.
  • Davenport tied things up off an RBI double from Schwanke to make it a 1-1.
  • After a tight battle for the majority of the game, with a runner on second, the Panthers got a hit from Gilbert the Pride made a crucial throwing error and Maurer slid under the tag at home to win the game, 2-1.
Game 2
The Breakdown
  • Ramer, Fair, freshman Madison Ecker (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon Township), and senior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) each led the Pride with one hit.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) started in the circle for Pride pitching the first 4.2 innings allowing six runs with one of them only earned off five hits.
  • Freshman Jordyn Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) came in relief for Purdue Northwest pitching the final 1.1 innings allowing no runs off two hits and tallied two strikeouts for a solid appearance.
  • Prasnjak and Peyton Smith led Davenport with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Hannah Tahaney started on the mound for the Panthers in Game 2 and pitched all seven innings for the complete game win. Tahaney did not give up a run and allowed four hits.
  • After three scoreless innings, Davenport scored their first run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The fifth inning became the deciding factor of the game as the Panthers recorded five runs to take a 6-0 advantage.
  • The Pride offense and bats went cold all game not able to squander any chances, ultimately falling in Game 2, 6-0.
