Pride softball drops both games to GLIAC leading Cardinals

The Purdue Northwest Softball team dropped both games to GLIAC leaders Saginaw Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The Pride fell in Game 1, 12-2, and lost the following game, 12-4.

The Basics

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Sophomore Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) led the Pride with two hits including her first triple on the season.
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) added one hit and one RBI.
  • Senior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) chipped in one hit.
  • Freshman Jordyn Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) gained the start on the mound for the Pride and pitched the first 3.1 innings allowing nine runs off seven hits.
  • Sophomore Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing three runs and three hits.
  • Olivia Elliot led Saginaw Valley State with three hits and six RBIs.
  • Macy Irelan started in the circle for the Cardinals pitching all five innings to earn the win. She finished allowing two runs off four hits with seven strikeouts.
  • The Pride got the scoring started in the first inning grabbing a 1-0 lead off a sacrifice fly from Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove).
  • SVSU tied the game up 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
  • The Cardinals then had a strong second inning scoring six runs to take a strong 7-1 advantage.
  • Purdue Northwest got another run in the fourth inning off a solo homerun from Hernandez to make it 7-2.
  • SVSU went on to score five more runs in the fourth and would wrap up Game 1 with the win in five innings, 12-2.
Game 2
The Breakdown
  • Dugan led the Pride with two hits and added a stolen base.
  • Stuckey and freshman Giuliana Giordano (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) each added two hits as well for the Pride.
  • Junior Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) contributed one hit and one RBI, while Hernandez chippin in another hit during the contest.
  • Freshman Rylan Gick (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) started in the circle for Pride pitching the first 4.0 innings allowing 11 runs with eight hits.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) came in relief for Purdue Northwest pitching the final 0.2 innings allowing one hit and one run.
  • Aalana Kimble did it all for the Cardinals leading the team with three hits and two RBIs. She also started on the mound for Game 2 pitching the first four innings to notch the win allowing four runs off seven hits.
  • Purdue Northwest took the early lead again scoring one run in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Cardinals gained the lead after a two-run homer from Elliot to go up 2-1.
  • SVSU grew their lead in the second scoring five runs to make it 7-1.
  • The Pride then scored three runs in the third inning to cut their deficit to 7-4.
  • The Cardinals then took control once again scoring four runs in the fourth and the game-winning run in the fifth to take Game 2, 12-4.

  • The Pride hit the road when they travel to take on Wayne State in GLIAC play on Sunday, April 6. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 PM CT in Detroit, Michigan.
