Softball splits two hard fought games at Ferris State

The Purdue Northwest softball split two hard-fought games in GLIAC play on the road at Ferris State on Friday afternoon. The Pride fell in Game 1, 12-6, but then bounced back in Game 2 in a come from behind victory, 3-2.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) led the Pride with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Senior Darcy Barkauskas (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) added two hits.
  • Sophomore Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) contributed one hit and two RBIs.
  • Freshman Jaydn Ramer and junior Grace Wilson (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) each chipped in one hit and one RBI during the game.
  • Freshman Jordyn Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) gained the start on the mound for the Pride and pitched the first 3.0 innings allowing six runs and seven hits.
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) came in relief for Purdue Northwest pitching the final 3.0 innings allowing six runs and six hits.
  • Alexis Kozlowski led Ferris State with two hits and six RBIs.
  • Catherine O'Donohue started in the circle for the Bulldogs pitching all seven innings to earn the win. She finished allowing six runs off nine hits with strikeouts.
  • After a 30 minute weather delay, the Pride started the scoring in the first inning scoring two runs to go up 2-0.
  • Purdue Northwest added a run in the third inning from a Ramer RBI single to increase their lead to 3-0.
  • Ferris State woke up in the bottom of the third inning tallying six runs to take a 6-3 lead.
  • The Pride chipped away though scoring two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game up at 6-6.
  • The Bulldogs then responded with another strong inning notching six runs in the sixth that included a grand slam from Kozlowski to make it a 12-6 game.
  • Purdue Northwest couldn't answer in the end and fell after a tough battle in Game 1, 12-6.
Game 2
The Breakdown
  • Ramer led the Pride with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Sophomore Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) added a hit and a stolen base during the game.
  • Four other Pride players added one hit each.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) started in the circle for Pride pitching her best game in her first season. She pitched a complete game win allowing only two hits and two runs with one of them only earned with three strikeouts to shutdown the Bulldogs.
  • Jadyn Joseph led Ferris State with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Ella Covill-Marter started on the mound for the Bulldogs in Game 2 and pitched all seven innings allowing three runs off seven hits notching two strikeouts.
  • Ferris State grabbed the early lead in the second inning scoring two runs to make it 2-0.
  • The Pride cut it to a 2-1 game in the fourth inning off an RBI single from Ramer.
  • Hernandez tied the game up 2-2 with a ground-out RBI in the sixth inning.
  • One batter later, Ramer came up clutch with an RBI double to give the Pride a 3-2 lead.
  • The Purdue Northwest defense and pitching held strong in the end to hold the Bulldog offense and come away with a 3-2 victory in Game 2.
