Pride softball drops both games at Grand Valley State

The Purdue Northwest softball dropped both games on the road against Grand Valley State on Wednesday afternoon. The Pride bats went cold in Game 1 falling 12-0, and then fell in Game 2 in a tough afternoon all-around, 8-2.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Senior Darcy Barkauskas (St. John, Ind./Lake Central), freshman Giuliana Giordano (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township), and senior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) each led the Pride with one hit.
  • Freshman Rylan Gick (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) earned the start on the mound for the Pride and pitched the first 3.1 innings allowing nine runs off eight hits but struckout four batters.
  • Pope led Grand Valley State with three hits and four RBIs.
  • Dorr started in the circle for the Lakers pitching all five innings allowing no runs with three hits to garner the win.
  • The Lakers grabbed the early lead scoring one run in the first inning to go up 1-0.
  • GVSU added their second run off a solo shot from Pope to increase their lead to 2-0.
  • The Lakers scored two more runs in the third inning to make it a 4-0 game.
  • The fourth inning was the deciding factor as GVSU tallied eight runs to make it a 12-0 score.
  • The Purdue Northwest bats were quiet all game and couldn't gain any momentum falling 12-0 in five innings for Game 1.
Game 2
The Breakdown
  • Barkauskas led the Pride with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Five other Pride players added one hit each.
  • Freshman Jordyn Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started in the circle for Pride pitching the first 4.1 innings allowing eight runs off 11 hits with one strikeout.
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) came in for relief for the Purdue Northwest pitching the final 1.2 innings only allowing two hits with two strikeouts for a solid effort out of the bullpen.
  • Edwards led Grand Valley State with three hits and two RBIs.
  • Ingram started on the mound for the Lakers in Game 2 and pitched a complete game for the win allowing two runs from six hits tallying four strikeouts,
  • The Pride took their first lead in second inning after a two-run homer from Barkauskas to go up 2-0.
  • GVSU tied things up in the second scoring two runs to make it 2-2.
  • The Lakers scored four runs in the fourth inning to regain the regain the lead, 6-2.
  • GVSU added two more runs in fifth to grow their advantage to 8-2.
  • Purdue Northwest once again couldn't get the offense going with the bats going quiet and ultimately dropping Game 2 in the end, 8-2.

  • The Pride hit the road once again when they travel to take on Ferris State in GLIAC play on Friday, March 28. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 PM CT in Big Rapids, Michigan.
