Softball splits Day 2 of Florida Spring Games with win over Bentley

The Purdue Northwest softball team split Day 2 of the Florida Spring Games on Friday afternoon. The Pride defeated Bentley in Game 1, 7-4, and then lost in a tough battle against Minnesota State-Mankato, 6-0.

Game 1 - vs. Bentley
The Breakdown
  • Junior Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) led the Pride going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
  • Freshman Kylie Madura (Munster, Ind./Munster) went 3-of-4 at the plate during the game.
  • Junior Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) added one hit and two RBIs.
  • Freshman Jadyn Ramer (Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) and senior Darcy Barkauskas (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) chipped in one RBI each. 
  • Junior Hailie Charmat (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) earned the start on the mound for the Pride in and pitched all seven innings for the complete game win. She ended the game striking out a season-high ten batters.
  • Krause led Bentley with three hits and one RBI.
  • Piromalli started in the circle for the Falcons pitching the first three innings allowing five hits and four runs.
  • The Pride started the game strong scoring two runs in the first inning to grab an early 2-0 lead.
  • Purdue Northwest added two more runs in the third inning to grow their lead to 4-0.
  • The Pride notched three runs to increase their advantage to 7-0 in the fifth inning.
  • Bentley didn't quit, scoring three runs in the sixth to make the score 7-3.
  • The Falcons added another run in the seventh inning to cut their deficit to 7-4 but the Pride defense held on strong finishing the game with the victory in the end.
Game 2 - Minnesota State - Mankato
The Breakdown
  • Sophomore Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) led the Pride with two hits.
  • Four Purdue Northwest batters each added one hit during the game.
  • Freshman Abbey Bond (Saint John, Ind./Andrean) started in the circle for Pride and all seven innings battling till the end tallying four strikeouts.
  • Anderson led Minnesota State-Mankato with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Brandt started on the mound for the Mavericks and pitched all seven innings for the complete game shutout win allowing six hits.
  • Both teams battled in the first few innings then saw the Mavericks score the first run of the game in the third inning to go up 1-0.
  • The sixth inning saw Minnesota State-Mankato take control of the game scoring five runs to increase the lead to 6-0.
  • Purdue Northwest couldn't get the offense going and went on to ultimately fall in the end, 6-0.
