Men's Basketball falls in triple overtime battle against Parkside


The Basics

Inside The Numbers
  • Junior Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East)  led the Pride with 22 points and dished out three assists.
  • Senior Detalian Brown (Chicago, Ill./Combine Academy) added 17 points during the game.
  • Senior Jailen Nelson (San Diego, Calif./Carlsbad) and freshman Will Ashford (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) chipped in seven points each.
  • As a team, the Pride ended the game shooting 27-of-67 (40.3%) from the floor and went 8-of-31 (25.8%) from the behind the arc.
  • Josiah Palmer led Parkside with a game-high 27 points and notched nine rebounds.
  • As a team, the Rangers finished the contest going 24-of-70 (34.3%) from the field and shot 7-of-25 (28.0%) from deep.
The Breakdown
  • The first half was a low-scoring affair with both teams going cold from the field early.
  • With the score tied 16-16 with nine minutes remaining in the first, the Pride finished on a 9-4 scoring run to take a 27-20 advantage at halftime.
  • The start of the second half was not a good one for the Pride as Parkside went on a 14-0 run to take a 34-27 lead with 14 minutes left.
  • Purdue Northwest battled back to cut the deficit to two, 34-32, with ten minutes remaining in the game.
  • With the Rangers holding another 42-34 lead, the Pride went on an important 13-5 run to tie the game up 47-47 with less then five minutes left in the contest.
  • In the final minutes of the second half, both team traded baskets and leads down the stretch with Parkside holding a 53-52 lead.
  • Albert hit a free throw to tie the game up at 53-53 with 13 seconds left.
  • Parkside went down the court for the a potential game-winner but could not connect and game went into overtime.
  • In the second overtime, the Pride found themselves down 60-57 with a minute and half remaining. Bikoy drained a step-back three-pointer to tie the game up at 60-60 all.
  • Both teams had chances in the final minute of the game but could not convert and game would go into a second overtime all tied up at 60-60.
  • During the second overtime, both team missed on several opportunities of their own with a low-scoring overtime period. With the Pride up 66-65, Palmer went one-of-two at the line to tie the game up again at 66-66.
  • Albert tried to connect on a game-winner in the final seconds but could not get the basket to go and we went into a third overtime with all things tied up at 66-66.
  • Both teams hit two point baskets each to make the score 68-68, but Palmer of Parkside drained a three to give the Rangers a 71-68 lead.
  • The Pride hit a shot to cut the deficit to 71-70 but the Rangers converted on a free-throw to go up 72-70 with over three minutes in the third overtime.
  • Brown for Purdue Northwest then drained a three-point shot to give the Pride a 73-72 lead.
  • Parkside then answered with a Nick Brown two-pointer to regain the lead, 74-73.
  • The Rangers hit two free-throws down the stretch to increase their lead to 76-73 as Purdue Northwest could not connect on a three-pointer at the end, falling in a triple-overtime battle, 76-73.
  • The Pride led in bench points, 18-4.
  • Purdue Northwest held an advantage in fast break points, 15-5. 
Post-Game Quote from Head Coach Boomer Roberts:
"Our guys were in the fight tonight, and I'm really proud of them. We've been guarding our tails off the past couple games, which is something we need to continue to build on. This thing is going to turn. We're not wavering in our belief of what is coming."
