Softball sweeps Parkside on Friday in GLIAC play

The Purdue Northwest softball swept Parkside in home GLIAC action on Friday afternoon defeating the Rangers in Game 1 in six innings, 11-2, and fighting off the Rangers in Game 2, 14-11.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Freshman Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) and senior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) each led the Pride with three hits and one RBI at the plate. Dugan also stole two bases.
  • Senior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) added two hits and three RBIs including a homerun.
  • Graduate student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) contributed two hits and two RBIs.
  • Junior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) chipped in three hits during the game.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched a complete game win notching five strikeouts and gave up only one earned run.
  • Hailey Remington and Megan Medlin led Parkside with one hit and one RBI each.
  • Olivia Fee started in the circle for the Rangers and pitched the first 1.1 innings, while Hope Maes came in and pitched the final 4.1 innings.
  • Purdue Northwest took the early lead scoring the first two runs in the first inning making it 2-0.
  • The Pride added four runs in the second inning including a two-run homer by J.DeBoer to increase their lead to 6-0.
  • A Dugan RBI single scored another run for the Pride in the third inning to make the score 7-0.

  • Senior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) launched a three-run homer to give the Pride the win in the sixth inning, 11-2.

  • Dugan led the Pride going 4-of-5 at the plate with a double and one RBI.
  • Michko added three hits including a homerun with five RBIs.
  • Sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) contributed two hits and two RBIs.
  • Stuckey chipped in two hits.
  • Freshman Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) started in the circle for the Pride and pitched the first four innings to earn the win and struckout three batters.
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) came in the game and pitched the final three innings and recorded six strikeouts. With those six strikeouts, Roop passed Caroline Brown('17) for most strikeouts in a single-season with 76.
  • Mia Johnson led Parkside with three hits and four RBIs.
  • Shelly Deisz started on the mound for the Rangers pitching the first inning giving up eight hits and seven runs.
  • Olivia Masnica pitched the final five innings striking out two hitters while giving up seven runs and eight hits.
  • The Rangers grabbed the early lead scoring two runs to make it 2-0 in the first inning.
  • The Pride took the lead in the first inning scoring three runs including a Michko two-run homer to make the score 3-2.
