Softball splits two competitive road battles at Ferris State

The Purdue Northwest softball team split two highly competitive battles on the road at Ferris State in GLIAC play on Sunday afternoon. The Pride fell just short in eight innings, 1-0, and then bounced back in Game 2 to hold off the Bulldogs, 2-1.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Senior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon), senior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North), and sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) each led the Pride with two hits.
  • Four other Pride players chipped in one hit each.
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched all eight innings only giving up five hits and one run with three strikeouts.
  • Alexis Kosloski led Ferris State with two hits and one RBI.
  • Aryn Gallacher started in the circle for the Bulldogs and pitched all eight innings for the complete game win allowing ten hits and no runs scored.
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth defensively, holding each other scoreless for seven innings.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Koslowski hit a double to center field to score the game winning run as the Pride would fall, 1-0.

  • Freshman Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) led the Pride with two hits.
  • Sophomore Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) added one hit and two RBIs.
  • Arnold and graduate student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) each chipped in one hit.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started in the circle for Pride and pitched all seven innings for the complete game win allowing only six hits with one run and striking out seven batters.
  • Jadyn Joseph led Ferris State with two hits.
  • Ashley Webb started on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched all seven innings allowing five hits and two runs.
  • The Pride took the lead scoring the their two lone runs in the second inning off a Hernandez two RBI double to make it 2-0.
  • Ferris State cut their deficit to one in the fourth inning to make the score 2-1.
  • Paliska was able to get herself out of several jams and defense stepped up when it need, especially with bases loaded in the bottom of seventh and get key outs to seal the hard-fought win, 2-1.
