Softball defeats Davenport in home GLIAC doubleheader

The Purdue Northwest softball team earned a the sweep of Davenport in GLIAC play on Tuesday afternoon coming from behind in Game 1 to defeat the Panthers, 4-3, and notching the shutout victory in Game 2, 2-0.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Graduate student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central)  led the Pride with three hits and one RBI including one triple.
  • Freshman added two hits and two RBIs.
  • Senior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) contributed two hits.
  • Sophomore Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) chipped in one hit and one RBI.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched all seven innings for the complete win. She ended with three strikeouts and only allowed three runs.
  • Hayley Krieger led Davenport with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Hailey Whisman started in the circle for the Panthers and pitched the first five innings allowing eight hits and three runs.
  • Kelsey Byers came in and pitched the last inning and allowed two hits and one run.
  • Davenport scored the games first runs off a two RBI double from Krieger to take the 2-0 lead.
  • The Panthers added a run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 3-0.
  • The Pride did not give up scoring four runs that included a go-ahead RBI single from Michko to take the lead 4-3.
  • Purdue Northwest sealed the come from behind win in the seventh inning, 4-3.

The Breakdown
  • Michko and sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) both led the Pride with two hits.
  • Four Pride players added one hit apiece.
  • Senior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) and junior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) chipped in one RBI.
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started in the circle for Pride and took complete control pitching seven innings for the shutout win where she struckout nine batters and allowed only one hit.
  • Brooke Bernt led Davenport with their lone hit of the game.
  • Cecilia Bell started on the mound for the Panthers and pitched all seven innings allowing eight hits and two runs.
  • The Pride took the lead scoring the games only runs in the fourth inning making the score 2-0.
  • Amazing pitching and great defense helped Purdue Northwest hold Davenport scoreless with only hit for seven innings and seal the Game 2 win, 2-0.
