Softball sweeps Wayne State; Tristan Zink eclipses 100 career wins as head coach

The Purdue Northwest softball team earned a the sweep of Wayne State on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Warriors in five innings of Game 1, 10-2, and shutting them out in Game 2, 3-0. With the wins, Head Coach Tristan Zink eclipsed the 100 career win mark for Purdue Northwest.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Graduate student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central)  led the Pride going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs including two homeruns.
  • Senior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) added two hits and three RBIs with a homerun.
  • Junior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) each contributed two hits and one RBI.
  • Senior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) chipped in one hit and two RBIs.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched all five innings for the win. She ended with two strikeouts and only allowed three hits and no earned runs.
  • Kylie Lewandowksi led Wayne State with two hits.
  • Sydney Long started in the circle for the Warriors and pitched the first two innings allowing seven hits and five runs.
  • Sasha Buckberger came in and pitched the last 2.2 innings with eight hits and five runs.
  • The Pride struck first scoring one run off a solo homer from J.DeBoer to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Wayne State took their first lead in the second inning scoring two runs to make it 2-1.
  • Purdue Northwest tied it 2-2 in the second inning off an RBI double from Stuckey.
  • The Pride regained the lead scoring five runs in the third inning that included a two-run homerun from Michko.
  • Purdue Northwest added two runs in the fourth to increase their to 9-2.
  • The Pride finished off the Warriors in the fifth inning after a J.DeBoer sacrifice fly to end Game 1, 10-2.
  • Purdue Northwest ended the game with 15 hits to Wayne States three hits.
Game 2
The Breakdown
  • Michko once again led the Pride with one hit and three RBIs.
  • Shroyer chipped in one hit.
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started in the circle for Pride and pitched all seven innings for a compete game shutout win. She only gave two hits and struckout six batters.
  • Lewandowski and Becky Hodder led Wayne State with one hit each.
  • The game was scoreless until the third inning until Michko launched a three-run blast to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
  • Great pitching and great defense helped Purdue Northwest hold Wayne State scoreless for seven innings and seal the Game 2 win, 3-0.

  • The Pride get ready for their final home action of the regular season when they host Davenport in GLIAC play on Tuesday, April 14. The doubleheader will start at 1:00 PM CT at Dowling Park.
