Softball celebrates Senior Day vs. Saginaw Valley State

The Purdue Northwest softball team celebrated Senior Day vs. Saginaw Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The Pride battled in both games defeating the Cardinals in Game 1, 8-7, and nearly completing a comeback in Game 2 but falling in end, 5-3.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Senior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) led the Pride with three hits including two doubles and two RBIs.
  • Graduate student Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) added two hits.
  • Senior Kelsi Dillon (Braidwood, Ill./Reed-Custer (Georgian Court)) contributed one hit with three RBIs.
  • Senior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) chipped in one hit and one RBI..
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and all seven innings for the complete game win. She ended with five strikeouts.
  • Sara Moos led Saginaw Valley State with three hit and three RBIs.
  • Emily Depew started in the circle for the Cardinals and pitched the first 2.2 innings allowing six hits and six runs.
  • Aalana Kimble came and pitched the last 3.1 innings with four hits, two runs, and five strikeouts.
  • The Cardinals started the game fast scoring three runs to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Pride got one back in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1.
  • Purdue Northwest tied it up in the second inning off a Shroyer two RBI double to make the score 3-3.
  • The Pride took the lead in the third inning from a Dillon off a three-RBI bases clearing double to make it 6-3.
  • SVSU cut their deficit to 6-5 after scoring two runs in the fourth inning.
  • Purdue Northwest extended their lead to 8-5 in the fourth inning off of RBI hits from Arnold and senior Kirsta Wright (Casa Grande, Ariz./Casa Grande Union (Central Arizona CC)).
  • The Cardinals added run in the fifth and sixth innings to shrink the Pride lead to 8-7.
  • Purdue Northwest held on in the end to take Game 1, 8-7.

The Breakdown
  • Sophomore Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) led the Pride with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Freshman Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) added three hits.
  • Arnold once again chipped in one hit and one RBI.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started in the circle for Pride and pitched all seven innings notching four strikeouts.
  • Emma Helvie led Saginaw Valley State with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Alyssa Muench started on the mound for the Cardinals pitching the first 5.1 innings tallying eight strikeouts and the win.
  • Kimble once again came in and pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn the save.
  • SVSU scored the first runs of the game taking 2-0 lead in the third inning.
  • The Cardinals added runs in the fifth and sixth to extend lead to 5-0.
  • The Pride did not quit and scored three run in sixth inning off of homers from Arnold and Hernandez to cut the deficit to 5-3.
  • The Cardinals though were able to hold on in the end for Game 2, 5-3.

  • The Pride once again get ready for home action when they host Wayne State in GLIAC play on Saturday, April 12 for Kids/Travel Team Day. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM CT at Dowling Park.
