Softball splits GLIAC doubleheader at Parkside

The Purdue Northwest softball team their road doubleheader at Parkside in GLIAC action on Wednesday afternoon. The Pride took Game 1 in five innings, 12-3, and then the Rangers got the best of them in Game 2, 14-0, in five innings.

Game 1
The Breakdown
  • Senior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) led the Pride going 3-of-4 at the plate with three RBIs including a double and homerun.
  • Freshman Kylie Dugan (Buck Creek, Ind./William Henry Harrison) also went 3-for-4 and added two RBIs.
  • Sophomore Olivia Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) contributed one hit with four RBIs.
  • Freshman Emma Fair (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) chipped in two hits.
  • Senior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and all five innings for the complete game win. She ended with four strikeouts and only gave up three total hits with three runs.
  • Rylee Baetz led Parkside with one hit and two RBIs.
  • KC Shickel started in the circle for the Rangers allowing four hits and five runs.
  • Shelly Deisz came in and pitched rest of the game allowing eight hits and seven runs.
  • The Pride started the game strong and lit up the first inning scoring seven runs to go up 7-0.
  • Parkside scored three runs in the first inning to cut the deficit to 7-3.
  • Purdue Northwest added a run in the second inning to extend their lead to 8-3.

  • Junior Myah Stuckey (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and sophomore Amanda DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) led the Pride with one hit each.
  • Senior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) started in the circle for Pride and pitched the first 1.1 innings allowing five hits and five runs.
  • Freshman Hannah Rafferty-Flatter (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) and Roop both came in and pitched for the Pride to finish the game.
  • Taylor Delgado led Parkside with four hits and one RBI.
  • Ellie Curtis started on the mound for the Rangers pitching all five innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win.
  • Parkside took the early lead in the first inning 1-0.
  • The second inning was not to kind to the Pride as the Rangers scored eight runs to make the score 9-0.
  • Parkside then scored five runs for the remainder of the contest and sealed the win in the fifth inning.
