Pride D2 Hockey Splits Series Against Marian University

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D2 Hockey took on Marian University this Friday and Saturday where the Pride would split the series taking game one by a score of 6-3 and dropping game two by a score of 6-3

The Basics

Inside the Numbers 
  • Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia/) led the Pride with one goal and an assist.
  • Fynn Oneill, Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.), Colin Kozijn, Blake Witkowski (Thompson, Conn.), and Tyson Mccaig also contributed a goal.
  • Rico Struckhoff (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College) played all sixty minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 25 saves. 
  • Simon Ellingson led Marian University with one goal and an assist.
 
The Breakdown 
  • The first period saw Purdue University Northwest take the lead with a power-play goal by Colin Kozijn, assisted by Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.) and Jordan Degouw at 8:09. Blake Witkowski (Thompson, Conn.) then extended the lead with another goal, assisted by Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia/) and Jordan Degouw.
  • In the second period, Purdue University Northwest added to their advantage with a goal from Tyson Mccaig, assisted by Fynn Oneill and Gabriel Santamaria (Guernsey, United Kingdom) at 8:42. Later, Fynn Oneill scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia/) at 17:25.
  • Marian University made a goalie change at the start of the third period with Jackson Powers coming in. Marian University responded quickly with a goal by Simon Ellingson, assisted by Serge Simard and Gavyn Galloway at 0:11. Gavyn Galloway then scored a power-play goal, assisted by Jason Vogler and Simon Ellingson at 3:21.
  • Purdue University Northwest secured their lead with an insurance goal by Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia/) at 6:37. Marian University narrowed the gap with a goal by Cayden Frenette, assisted by Devon Butler and Jace Weber at 16:19, but Purdue's Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.) scored a power-play goal at 19:33 to close out the game.
Game Two
Inside the Numbers 
  • Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.), Adam Napravnik (Praha, Czech Republic), and Jordan Degouw each netted a goal for the Pride.
  • Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.) and Colin Kozijn each dished two assists.
  • Luka Krstulovich (Frankfort, Ill./) played all sixty minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 22 saves. 
  • Gavyn Galloway led Marian University with one goal and two assists.
The Breakdown 
  • Marian University took an early lead in the first period with a goal by Simon Ellingson, assisted by Serge Simard at 0:44. Marian added another goal at 6:03 with a short-handed effort by Gavyn Galloway.
  • In the second period, Marian extended their lead with a goal from Serge Simard, assisted by Gavyn Galloway at 1:34. Purdue Northwest responded with a power-play goal by Jordan Degouw, assisted by Colin Kozijn and Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.) at 3:38. Later in the period, Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.) scored for the Pride, with assists from Colin Kozijn and Nate Cheney (St. Michael, Minn.), closing the gap at 18:04.
  • The third period saw Marian University take control again with a power-play, game-winning goal from Jackson Sweeney, assisted by Gavyn Galloway and Jason Vogler at 1:36. Marian's Justin Doucette added an insurance goal at 7:00, assisted by Chris Regan and Jackson Sweeney. Purdue Northwest's Adam Napravnik (Praha, Czech Republic) scored at 12:13, assisted by Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia/) and Fynn Oneill, but Marian University sealed the game with a goal by Chris Regan at 18:15.
