D2 Hockey Splits Opening Series Against Lawrence Tech

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D2 Hockey team split their weekend season opener series against Lawrence Tech. Game 1 on Friday night ended with a score of 6-2, and Game 2 on Saturday evening, 2-3. 
 
The Basics 

  • Records: Purdue Northwest (1-1), Lawrence Tech University (1-1) 

  • Location: Hammond, Ind. - The Kube 

  • Season Opener 

Game 1  
Inside the Numbers 

  • Freshman Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.) and Senior Brandon Prodoehl (Munster, Ind./Munster HS) led the Pride with two goals each. 

  • Freshman Leon Swiatkowski (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) and Freshman Jt Verdino also contributed a goal 

  • Duncan McCourt, Collin Kozijn (Leduc, Alberta), Jt Verdino, and Cole Bocock each dished out an assist. 

  • Senior Kyle Fritz (Montreal, Canada/Vanguard HS) played all sixty minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 29 saves. 

  • Timothy Young played forty-two minutes in goal for Lawrence Tech and had 28 saves. 

The Breakdown 

  • Lawrence Tech would strike first in period one with a shorthanded goal, however a few minutes later the Pride would answer back with a powerplay goal to tie the game 1-1. 

  • In period two the Pride's offense would explode for three goals, but Lawrence Tech would also add another goal in the final seconds of period two. 

  • The Pride would put the game away in period three with two empty net goals to secure a 6-2 victory. 

Game 2 
Inside the Numbers 

  • Freshman Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.) and Senior Brandon Prodoehl (Munster, Ind./Munster HS) led the Pride with one goal each. 

  • Graduate Cole Bocock and Senior Brandon Mcneal each dished out an assist. 

  • Senior Curtis Campbell (Oshawa, Ontario/Maxwell Heights HS) played all sixty minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 36 saves. 

  • Griffin Foster played sixty minutes in goal for Lawrence Tech and had 26 saves. 

The Breakdown 

  • Leon Swiatkowski (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) would get the Pride on the board in the first half with a shorthand goal to take a 1-0 lead going into period two. 

  • Lawrence tech would answer back in period two putting up two goals to take a 2-1 lead over the Pride. 

  • In period three Lawrence Tech would add one more goal and the Pride would answer back with a goal from Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.), but the Pride would run out of time and Lawrence Tech would secure a 3-2 victory over the Pride.

  • The Pride next hit the ice to take on Concordia University (Mich.) in a weekend series. Game one is set for Friday, September 29th at 5:00 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Michigan
