The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) approved Purdue University Northwest to elevate it's ACHA Division 3 Hockey program to ACHA Division 2 level starting with the 2023-24 season.
"On behalf of Purdue University Northwest, we are excited to enhance the quality and competition of the hockey program" said
Rick Costello, PNW Director of Athletics. "We look forward to returning to the Northern Collegiate Hockey League and renewing outstanding rivalries."
PNW will once again be a member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) which includes Aurora University, Concordia University (Wis.), DePaul University, Lewis University, Marian University, Marquette University, Roosevelt University, St. Norbert, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
"The NCHL is pleased to welcome Purdue Northwest back into the league and watch their high level of play" said Dan Breunig, NCHL Commissioner. "After almost winning the NCHL in their inaugural season we know PNW will be a competitive addition to the league."
The PNW ACHA D3 hockey team finished the 2022-23 season with a program best 11 wins, including wins against Trine, Butler, and Lake Superior State. The PNW ACHA D1 program concluded their first season with 21 wins and a national ranking of 20.
"I could not be more excited about the move and how it will positively impact the hockey program," said Director of Hockey Operation and ACHA DI Head Coach, Carl Trosien. "Fielding two nationally competitive hockey teams will allow us to attract student-athletes from all over North America and beyond."
"We have all the resources to be a major player in the college hockey landscape. This is just the next step in the evolution of PNW hockey. I want to thank Chancellor Keon and Director of Athletics Rick Costello for the continued support of PNW hockey. We are building something special here and I am appreciative of the opportunity to lead the program."
PNW hockey teams play home games at the Kube Sports Complex located in Hammond, Ind. near campus.
