Purdue Northwest softball senior
Madison Schultz (Lafayette, Ind./Faith Christian) becomes the softball all-time homerun leader blasting her 23rd career homerun vs. McKendree. The squad went 2-2 at the Springfield Invitational this past weekend.
Saturday, March 4 vs. University of Illinois-Springfield - W, 3-2
The Breakdown
- Schultz led the Pride with two hits and one RBI.
- Senior Jocey Gault (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison)Â added two hits during the game.
- Junior Aubrey Shroyer (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon)Â and senior Ashley Bravo (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) chipped in one hit and one RBI.
- Junior Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) started on the mound for the Pride and earned the big win. She only allowed two earned runs and notched three strikouts.
- Brinkley led UIS with three hits.
- Zawacki pitched the first 5.2 innings and earned 11 strikeouts.
- The Stars scored early in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Pride rallied off two runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage.
- UIS scored a run in the fourth to make it 3-2 but the Pride pitching and defense held strong in the end.
Saturday, March 4 vs. McKendree - L, 0-1
The Breakdown
- Shroyer led the Pride with a hit and added a stolen base.
- Junior Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) earned the start in the circle for the Pride and pitched all six innings. She only gave up one earned run and notched eight strikeouts
- Harris and Cheely led McKendree with two hits each.
- Quaethem pitched the entire game for the Bearcats and recorded 17 strikeouts.
- Both teams were held scoreless through most the entire game.
- McKendree recorded the game-winning run in the seventh inning to earn the win, 1-0.
Sunday, March 5 vs. Quincy - L, 8-5
The Breakdown
- Senior Ashley Bravo (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), senior Briana Poehler (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon), and Gault all led the Pride with two hits and an RBI each.
- Shroyer added two hits.
- Junior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) chipped in one hit and one RBI.
- Senior Abbie May (LaSalle, Ill./Saint Bede Academy) pitched the first 5.1 innings for Purdue Northwest and notched two strikeouts.
- Jennings led Quincy with two hits and one RBI.
- Jennings started in the circle for the Hawks and recorded two strikeouts.
- The Pride started the scoring in the first inning taking an early 2-0 lead.
- Quincy tied the game up in the first, 2-2.
- Purdue Northwest scored a run in the third inning and two in the fourth to regain the lead, 5-2.
- The Hawks notched two runs in the fifth to their deficit to 5-4.
- Quincy rallied off four runs in the sixth inning to seal the win, 8-5.
Sunday, March 5 vs. McKendree - W, 12-6
The Breakdown
- Schultz launched her record breaking 23rd career homerun in the third inning to lead the Pride.
- Senior Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) added two hits and four RBIs, including a homerun in the first inning.
- Junior Allison Arnold (Tucson, Ariz./Naperville North) chipped in hit and two RBIs which included a homer in the seventh inning.
- Gault also added a homerun for the Pride.
- Junior Emma Hill (Holmes Beach, Fla./Cary-Grove (IL)) earned the start for the Pride on the mound and recorded the win. She allowed two earned runs and tallied three strikeouts.
- Stansbury led McKendree with two hits and one RBI.
- Koesterer pitched the first 2.1 innings for the Bearcats and earned three strikeouts.
- The Pride took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
- McKendree tallied three runs in the first to tie the game up at 3-3.
- Purdue Northwest lit up the third inning scoring six runs to take a 9-3 lead.
- The Bearcats scored a run in the fifth and two runs in the six to cut their deficit to 9-6.
- The Pride recorded three more run in the seventh to extend their lead to 12-6.
