ACHA DIII Hockey lights up Wheaton in weekend home series

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D3 Hockey team took both games of their weekend series against Wheaton University. Game 1 on Friday night ended with a score of 14-2, and Game 2 on Saturday evening, 14-2.

Game 1 
Inside the Numbers
  • Junior Kevin Pietrucha led the Pride with three goals and one assist.
  • Junior Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute), Freshman Jacob Lee (Osceola, Ind./Penn), and Sophomore Nate Allerding (Munster, Ind./Munster) all had two goals each.
  • Junior Brendan Kerrick (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) led the Pride in assists with four.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato and Senior Jake Kiebles (Alsip, Ill./Alan B. Shepard) split time in the goal for the Pride.

The Breakdown
  • The Pride would take control of the game in the first period and not look back as they put up seven goals.
  • Wheaton would get on the board in period two however the Pride would answer back with three goals of their own.
  • Wheaton would find the back of the net at the beginning of period three, but the Pride's offense would not be silenced in as they put up four more goals to secure the 14-2 victory.

Inside The Numbers
  • Junior Kevin Pietrucha, Junior Brett Bandstra (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), and Junior Luke Eenigenburg (Munster, Ind./Munster HS) led the Pride each with three goals.
  • Graduate James Bugajski (Munster, Ind./Munster HS), Junior Brendan Kerrick (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS), and Junior Zarren Zafiro (Williams Bay, Wis./Williams Bay HS) each dished out two assists.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato and Sophomore Alexander Broschek split time in the goal for the Pride.
  • Warner Mehl played all sixty minutes in goal for Wheaton.

  • The Pride picked up right where they left of last game by putting up five goals in period one.
  • In period two the Pride kept their foot on the gas pedal adding four more goals.
  • Wheaton put up two in period three however the Pride would answer back with five goals of their own to secure the 14-2 victory and the series sweep.
