The Purdue Northwest baseball team opened their 2023 season with a 4-game series against Northwood where they played two double headers on Saturday and Sunday. The Pride ended the weekend going 1-3. All games were held at Labors' Local 41 field in Hammond, Indiana.
Game 1, February 25 vs. Northwood - L, 3-4 (7 innings)
The Breakdown
- Graduate Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) led the Pride with 2 hits while scoring a run.
- Junior Tyler Nelson () added a hit and an RBI.
- Junior Noah Burgh (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community High School) started on the mound for the Pride pitching 3.2 innings and recording two strikeouts.
- Myles Beale led Northwood with three hits and two RBIs.
- Derek Clark pitched all seven innings for the Timberwolves and tallied 7 strikeouts.
- The Pride grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the Second inning with a Beldon Glasgow (Markle, Ind./Norwell) sacrifice fly to score Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel).
- Northwood notched their first runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
- In the fifth inning Northwood would tac on two more runs but the Pride would answer back with two runs of their own to make it 4-3 going into the sixth inning.
- The Pride couldn't manage to find anymore runs giving Northwood the 4-3 victory.
Game 2, February 25 vs. Northwood - L, 8-9 (9 innings)
The Breakdown
- Junior Brad Miller (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) led Purdue Northwest with two hit and one RBI.
- Junior Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel) and Junior Derrick Dawson (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) also added two hits each.
- Junior Joe Buikema (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College Prep) started on the mound for the Pride and pitched four innings.
- Rybicki led Northwood with two hits and one RBI.
- Dentler pitched six innings for the Timberwolves and recorded 4 strikeouts.
- Northwoods took and early lead through the first five innings putting up 6 runs.
- The Pride would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a Luke Montgomery (Orland Park, Ill./St. Laurence High School) RBI.
- Northwoods would add three more runs in the sixth inning.
- The Pride would mount there comeback in the ninth inning as there offense exploded for 7 runs.
- Northwood would bring in Jekielek to pitch to end up saving the game and secure the 9-8 victory.
Game 1, February 26 vs. Northwood - W, 6-4 (7 innings)
The Breakdown
- Graduate Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) led the Pride each with three hits and two RBIs.
- Luke Montgomery (Orland Park, Ill./St. Laurence High School) and Beldon Glasgow (Markle, Ind./Norwell) also contributed two hits.
- Tyler Nelson (), Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel), and Brad Miller (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) also chipped in one hit.
- Freshman Peyton Niksch (Lowell, Ind./Andrean) earned the start for the Pride pitched the first five innings and notching four strikeouts.
- Senior Riley Gallagher pitched the final two innings to slam the door.
- Salamon led Northwood with one hit and two RBIs.
- Longstret pitched four innings for Northwood and recorded two strikeouts.
- The Pride strike first in the first inning grabbing two runs on a wild pitch and an Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel) RBI single.
- Northwood would get on the board in the second inning with a 2-run homerun.
- The Pride would add three more runs in inning four and five.
- Northwood would narrow the gap in the sixth inning as they added two runs making it a 4-5 game.
- Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) would hit a RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to grow the Pride's lead to 6-4.
- Senior Riley Gallagher would come in and slam the door to secure the 6-4 win for the Pride.
Game 2, February 26 vs. Northwood - L, 2-13 (9 innings)
The Breakdown
- Beldon Glasgow (Markle, Ind./Norwell) led the Pride with two hits and an RBI.
- Brad Miller (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest), Ethan Imlach (Mokena, Ill./Mount Carmel), and Alex Gasbarro (New Lenox, Ill./St. Laurence High School) each added two hits.
- Freshman Conor Pangburn () earned the start for the Pride pitched the first four innings and notching five strikeouts.
- Duryea led Northwood with two hits and four RBIs.
- DeFay pitched six innings for the Timberwolves and tallied two strikeouts.
- Northwood added 4 runs through the first four innings.
- The Pride would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a Glasgow double and a Smith single.
- Northwood's offensive however would not be silenced as they added 9 runs between the fifth and ninth inning to secure a 13-2 victory.
