ACHA DIII Hockey splits weekend series against Trine

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D3 Hockey team split their weekend series against Trine University. Game 1 on Friday night ended with a score of 1-3 at the Outdoor Series hosted at Bulldog Park in Crown Point, and won Game 2 on Saturday evening on the road, 4-3.

Game 1 
Inside the Numbers
  • Junior Brett Bandstra (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) led the Pride with their lone goal.
  • Junior Brendan Kerrick (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) and Junior Kevin Pietrucha each dished out an assist.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride and had 43 saves.
  • Ricardo Alvarez played all 60 minutes in goal for Trine and had 28 saves.
The Breakdown
  • Trine would strike first in as Benjamin Baumgardner would find the back of the net in the final minutes of period one.
  • In period two each team would play great defense not allowing either team to score. The Pride would kill three powerplays in period two.
  • Junior Brett Bandstra (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) would get the pride on the board in period three as he would find the back of the net.
  • Trine however would score two goals in the final two minutes of the game to secure a 3-1 victory.

Inside The Numbers
  • Junior Brendan Kerrick (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) led the Pride each with one goal and an assist.
  • Junior Brett Bandstra (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), Junior Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute), and Freshman Cody Graniczny (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) each had a goal.
    Junior Kevin Pietrucha and Junior Brett Bandstra (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) each dished out an assist.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride and had 35 saves.
  • Dane Chapman and Kyler Bayes each split time in the goal for Trine.
The Breakdown
  • Trine would strike first in period one with a goal from Aaron Wrost to take the lead.
  • In period two each team would explode offensively as Trine would put up two goals, however the Pride would find the back of the net three times to tie the game.
  • In the fist minute of period three Junior Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) would net the game winning goal for the Pride.
  • The Pride would play great defense in period three to secure the 4-3 victory over Trine.
