D2 hockey Splits weekend series against Roosevelt University

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D2 Hockey took on Roosevelt University this Friday and Saturday where the Pride would split the series losing game one 2-1 and winning game two 4-1.

The Basics 
  • Records: Purdue Northwest (6-4), Roosevelt (6-4) 
  • Location: Chicago, IL and Hammond, Indiana

Inside the Numbers 
  • Sophomore Sean Curtin (Chicago, Ill.) led the Pride with one goal.
  • Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.), Brandon Mcneal, and Cole Bocock (Griffith, Ind./) also contributed a goal.
  • Graduate Cole Bocock (Griffith, Ind./) dished out an assist.
  • Senior Vincent Didonato played all sixty minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 45 saves. 
  • Alexander Davis played all sixty minutes in goal for Roosevelt and had 45 saves. 
 
The Breakdown 
 
  • The first period remained scoreless, setting the stage for an exciting game.
  • Purdue University Northwest broke the deadlock in the second period with a goal by Sean Curtin (Chicago, Ill.), assisted by Cole Bocock (Griffith, Ind./).
  • Roosevelt University quickly responded with a goal by Braden Silver, assisted by Adrian Ruzencevs.
  • The third period saw Roosevelt University secure the win with another goal by Braden Silver, assisted by Adrian Ruzencevs and Conor Wiegel. This would secure the 2-1 victory for the Lakers.
Game Two
Inside the Numbers 
  • Senior Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) and Freshman Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia) led the Pride with a goal and an assist.
  • Jacob Behnke and Brandon Mcneal also contributed a goal.
  • Cody Graniczny (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), Jt Verdino, and Sean Curtin (Chicago, Ill.) each had an assist.
  • Freshman Luka Krstulovich (Frankfort, Ill.) played 58:19 minutes in the goal for the Pride and had 24 saves. 
  • Timothy Darche played 58:19 in goal for Roosevelt and had 45 saves. 
 
The Breakdown 
  • In the first period, the Pride scored a power-play goal, with Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia) finding the net, assisted by Jt Verdino.
  • In the second period, Roosevelt University notched a goal at 2:12, courtesy of Braden Silver, who was set up by Dylan Mettetal.
  • The Pride responded with another power-play goal, as Jacob Behnke (South Elgin, Ill.) found the back of the net, assisted by Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) and Savva Verbetskii (Ekaterinburg, Russia). This goal ultimately became the game-winner.
  • In the third period, the Pride added an insurance goal at 13:39, scored by Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) and assisted by Sean Curtin (Chicago, Ill.) and Leon Swiatkowski (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic).
  • The period concluded with the Pride securing the win with an empty-net goal, courtesy of Brandon Mcneal, who was assisted by Cody Graniczny (Beecher, Ill./Beecher).
