ACHA D3 Hockey takes down Butler in weekend series

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D3 Hockey team took both games of their weekend series against Butler. Winning Game 1 on Friday night 5-3, and Game 2 on Saturday evening, 4-3 in a shootout.

The Basics
  • Records: Purdue Northwest (4-0), Butler (2-4)
  • Location: Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • Game one of weekend series
Game 1 
Inside the Numbers
  • Freshman Sam Heffernan (Carmel, Ind./Zionsville Community High) led Purdue Northwest with two goals.
  • Freshman Nick Anderson (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point), Senior Nick Anthony (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS), and Freshman Lee Jacob each added to The Prides score with a goal each.
  • Junior Kevin Petrucha (Monticello, Ind./Alan B. Shepard) contributed with three assists.
  • Senior Cole Bocock and Junior Robert Marciano (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central HS) each dished out an assist as well.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride.
The Breakdown
  • Butler would take an early lead in period one with a goal from Nick Wade, but the Pride would answer back with a goal of their own from Lee. Ending the first period 1-1.
  • Purdue Northwest would explode offensively in period two with three goals. One from Anthony and two from Heffernan.
  • Butler would add one goal in the second period with a goal from Lucas Krol.
  • Butler would score early again in period three with a goal from Evan Halligan.
  • In the final seconds of period three the Pride would put the game away with an insurance goal from Anderson.

 Game 2
Inside The Numbers
  • Freshman Sam Heffernan (Carmel, Ind./Zionsville Community High), Freshman Jacob Lee (Osceola, Ind./Penn), and Junior Kevin Pietrucha each contributed a goal for the Pride.
  • Freshman Anthony Cioe (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and Freshman Gabriel Galvez (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) each dished out an assist for The Pride.
  • Junior Vincent Didonato played all 65 minutes in goal for The Pride.
  • Evan Halligan led Butler with one goal and an assist.
  • Max Crane played all 65 minutes in goal for Butler.
The Breakdown
  • Butler would jump to an early lead in the first period as Kem and Halligan would each net a goal to go into period two.
  • The Pride would go on the attack in period two however scoring three goals as Heffernan, Pietrucha, and Lee each found the back of the net.
  • Butler would tie the game at the end of period two with a goal from Barnhart.
  • Period three would be focused on defense as neither team would find the back of the net pushing the game to overtime.
  • Overtime ended with neither team scoring which brought the game down to a shootout.
  • With great defense from Didonato in the goal and a lone goal from Crane The Pride where able to secure a 4-3 victory over Butler.
