LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Purdue Northwest track & field team finished the Jim Vargo Invitational at Bellarmine University's Owsley B. Frazier Stadium over the weekend, which was highlighted by a trio of record-setting performances.

PNW head coach Austin Warner saw outstanding performances by all 11 runners that represented Purdue Northwest this weekend including Antonio Chapa, Christina Shaginaw and Quinton Bock, who all turned in performances that were not only near the top of their individual races but broke the previous PNW records for their specific events.

Chapa, a senior from Portage, Ind., won Friday's men's 10,000-meter invitational division race by three seconds over Drake Dickerson of Ohio Christian. Chapa's time of 31:22.07 after the 25-lap race not only was a personal record, but a school record as well.

Shaginaw's time of 18:20.39 in the women's 5,000-meter invitational race on Friday was also a school record time. Shaginaw placed sixth in the race along with her sister Molly Shaginaw, who finished the 12.5-lap event in a time of 19:58.73 for 18th place.

Quinton Bock completed the trio of school records on Friday when he finished the men's 5,000-meter invitational division race in a time of 15:01.21. Carter Leak also ran in the event and finished 12th with a time of 15:39.35.

Saturday's Open Division portion of the Vargo Invitational included four raced in which PNW had student-athletes take part in including the women's 5,000-meter run and 400-meter dash as well as the men's 1,500-meter and 800-meter runs.

Megan Teitge completed the women's 5,000-meter open race in a time of 20:16.74 for sixth place while teammate Kyana Maldonado finished the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.34 for 18th place.

Bruce Leipart, Eric Alegre and Logan Russell all competed in the men's 1,500-meter open race. Leipart's 4:10.77 time earned him a 16th-place finish while Alegre (47th) and Russell (53rd) tallied times of 4:23.86 and 4:26.83, respectively.

Fernando Rosas may have finished the 800-meter dash in 13th place, but his time of 2:01.70 was just 0:04.17 behind first place.

All in all, it was a successful weekend with members of the cross country team competing at the outdoor track & field event. The 2022-23 academic year will see the launch of a full indoor and outdoor track & field season for the Pride.
