Men's Tennis Falls to 26th-Ranked Ferris State

PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Purdue Northwest men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Ferris State, who entered the GLIAC matchup ranked 26th in the latest ITA Division II rankings.

In Singles action, Bjorgvin Juliusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Jonas Franssen (Deuss, Germany) each forced their respective opponents to a third set. Juliusson took the first set from Ferris State's Benjamin Lortie 7-6 (5) before losing the second and third sets by matching 6-0 scores. Franssen slipped past his No 6 flight opponent Ayush Deswal 7-5 in the first set before Deswal won the second set 6-1. Franssen and Dewal played a single super tiebreaker set that would go to Deswal 10-7.

Levent Evyapan (Istanbul, Turkey) battled Yannic-Alexander Mader, who is the 54th-ranked singles player in the Division II ranks, and nearly took a set from his highly-ranked competitor. Mader took the match in straight sets, but not before Evyapan forced a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (5) in Set 2.

The Bulldogs claimed all three decisions in the doubles competition. Evyapan and Luis Alvear (Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain) fell 6-3 at No. 1 Doubles while Franssen and Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez (Guadalajara, Spain) came up just short at No. 3 Doubles by a 6-4 final.
