Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team dropped Friday morning's match against Lake Superior State 7-0 inside the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.
Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda (Monterrey, Mexico) and
Levent Evyapan (Istanbul, Turkey) secured a victory at No. 1 Doubles for the Pride. The duo defeated LSSU's Juho Kantola and Aaron Osmond by final score of 6-4.
Doubles play between the Pride and Lakers was competitive all morning.
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez (Guadalajara, Spain) and
Luis Alvear (Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain) fell by a 6-4 margin at the No. 3 Doubles match, while
Luca Kirchhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) and
Bjorgvin Juliusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) fell 6-3 in No. 2 Doubles action.
In singles competition, Flores went three sets in a narrow defeat against Kantola in the top matchup. The two split a pair of 6-3 decisions with Flores rebounding with a win in Set 2 to force the tiebreaker. However, Kantola eventually came out on top by a 6-2 decision.
The No. 2 Singles matchup between Kirchhoff and LSSU's Xavier Vicent featured another close comeback attempt for the Pride, but Vicent held on for a 6-3, 6-4 triumph.
Paul Hawes (Naples, Fla.) also fell 6-4 in the second set at No. 6 Singles after an attempt to climb back against LSSU's Diego Penz.
PNW's lineup featured Evyapan at No. 3 Singles, Juliusson at No. 4 Singles and Alvear in the fifth slot.
