PARK FOREST, Ill. — The Purdue Northwest women's tennis team fell to No. 31 Grand Valley State on Friday by a final score of 6-1 at the Park Forest Tennis Club.
Sienna Lopez (Glendale Heights, Ill.) won her match at No. 1 Singles over GVSU's Marija Leko in two sets, 7-6, 6-4. Lopez improved to 2-1 in conference play and earned her sixth win overall in singles competition.
At No. 3 Singles,
Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) responded with an impressive 6-1 victory in the second set to pull even with GVSU's Taylor Barrett before Barrett pulled out the narrow win in the deciding set. In addition,
Salma Raslan (Cairo, Egypt) battled a tightly-contested opening set at No. 6 Singles that went to a tiebreaker before she fell to GVSU's Sophia Hanover, 7-6, 6-2.
The visitors claimed the doubles point after taking all three matches. Lopez and Dizon teamed up for the No. 1 Doubles match against GVSU's Marija Leko and Marily Canellopoulos (6-2).
Oona Kintscher (Berlin, Germany) and
Hayley Tsuen (Johannesburg, South Africa) hung tough at No. 2 Doubles against GVSU's Vasileia and Vera Griva, but fell by a 6-3 margin.
Nicole Uzcategui (Doral, Fla.) and
Mar Vilanova (Girona, Spain) went up against the Lakers' Barrett and Estefania Hernandez at the No. 3 Doubles match.
