Women's Tennis honors Nicole Uzcategui on Senior Day

PARK FOREST, Ill. – Oona Kintscher (Berlin, Germany) and Mar Vilanova (Girona, Spain) earned straight-set victories in singles play, but the Purdue Northwest women's tennis team was ultimately defeated 5-2 by Ferris State. PNW honored Nicole Uzcategui (Doral, Fla.) during the Senior Day match on Saturday at Park Forest Tennis Club.

The Pride dropped to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC following the setback, while Ferris State improved to 9-5 (4-1 GLIAC).

Kintscher defeated Brittany Lavenant in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles flight to improve to 5-4 on the season. Vilanova cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alyssa Zellers at No. 6 singles for her first singles victory as a member of the Pride.

Unfortunately for PNW, those were the only two points the team could muster despite competitive action in the other four singles matches and nearly pulling out the doubles point.

Sienna Lopez (Glendale Heights, Ill.), Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) and Hayley Tsuen (Johannesburg, South Africa) each took their singles opponents to a third set while Uzcategui fell by a slim margin with set scores of 7-5, 7-6.

In doubles action, the duo of Dizon and Lopez won their second match of the season by edging out Agata Klak and Parker Nolan 7-6 (3).

Kintscher and Tsuen faced off against the Ferris State duo of Sam Stephenson and Sophie Daavettila. as the Pride tandem suffered a close 6-4 setback at No. 2 Doubles.
