PARK FOREST, Ill. — Purdue Northwest fell 7-0 to No. 40 Grand Valley State in Friday's GLIAC men's tennis competition at the Park Forest Tennis Club.
GVSU claimed the doubles point for the early 1-0 advantage in the match. The Pride duo of
Bjorgvin Juliusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and
Luca Kirchhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) fell 6-3 at No. 2 Doubles while
Jonas Franssen (Deuss, Germany) and
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez (Guadalajara, Spain) came up just short by the same margin at the No. 3 Doubles match.
Levent Evyapan (Istanbul, Turkey) and
Luis Alvear (Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain) made their first appearance together at No. 1 Doubles against GVSU's Josep Canyadell and Tomas Oliveira (6-0).
Kirchhoff made his second appearance overall, and first in GLIAC play, at No. 1 Singles where he battled tough against Canyadell in pair of 6-4 losses. Canyadell is ranked 59th in the national ITA Division II Singles rankings this week.
At No. 3 Singles, Juliusson forced a deciding set against GVSU's Sean Miller with a 6-3 win in the second stanza. However, Miller would end up on top by a 6-1 margin in the third. Evyapan nearly pulled off a second-set win but fell 6-2, 7-5 to GVSU's Sebastian Arce.
