PARK FOREST, Ill. — The Purdue Northwest men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Division I Chicago State in Saturday's non-conference match at Park Forest Tennis Club.
PNW dropped to 2-7 overall and will now turn to the conference portion of its schedule. The Pride are slated to open GLIAC play in back-to-back home matches against Wayne State (March 25) and Northwood (March 26).
Saturday's match opened with a narrow decision for the doubles point, which came down to a tiebreaker with PNW's
Jonas Franssen (Deuss, Germany) and
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez (Guadalajara, Spain) in a hard-fought battle at No. 3 Doubles against Jakov Suler and Max Sandoval. The Cougars claimed the set 7-6 (8-6) for the early 1-0 lead in the match.
Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda (Monterrey, Mexico) and
Levent Evyapan (Istanbul, Turkey) recorded a 6-3 victory at No. 1 Doubles, before the Cougars evened things up with a win at No. 2 Doubles.
CSU (7-9) carried the momentum over to the singles competition as the Cougars swept the six individual matchups.
