ST. LOUIS — The Purdue Northwest women's tennis team played well despite falling 7-0 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Club to Maryville University.
The Pride (4-7) recorded a win at the No. 1-doubles flight when
Sienna Lopez (Glendale Heights, Ill.) and
Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) defeated Emily Orlove and Carolina Velazquez, 6-3.
Maryville (5-2) would eventually take the doubles point despite PNW pushing the remaining two doubles flights to the brink in tightly contested sets.
Oona Kintscher (Berlin, Germany), who was playing No. 3 Singles, took the first set from Orlove, 7-5, before dropping the final two sets 4-6, 1-6.
Lopez (No. 1 Singles), Dizon (No. 2 Singles) and
Salma Raslan (Cairo, Egypt) (No. 4 Singles) each gave their opponent everything they had in narrow two-set losses.
