HAMMOND, Ind, – The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team came back from an 11-point deficit to take down the Michigan Tech Huskies, 93-89, in overtime Thursday night.
With the win, PNW improves to 7-13 (4-9 GLIAC), while MTU falls to 12-7 (7-4 GLIAC).
How it happened: MTU started the game strong, racing out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter, before the Pride went on a 12-2 run to end the quarter tied at 14-14. The Huskies would pull ahead in the second quarter with efficient free-throw shooting and built their lead back up to eight with a 38-30 advantage.
The second half, however, belonged to the Pride.
Molly DeValkenaere's (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) six straight free throws, along with Dash Shaw's (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) consistent scoring punch, kept PNW in the game with a 10-6 run to end the third quarter.
PNW continued to cut down the lead in the fourth quarter with clutch shots by Shaw and Kylie Schmidt (Francis Creek, Wis./Mishicot) throughout the frame. With 13 seconds left, Shaw hit a free throw to tie the game at 80-80 and forced an extra period.
In overtime, Shaw and Schmidt continued their career performances by scoring eight of the Pride's final nine points to end the contest. PNW closed out the game with a crushing 13-4 run over the final three minutes of action.
Shaw and Schmidt had career-high scoring outputs with 32 and 20, respectively.
MTU's Ellie Mackay led five Huskies in double figures with 27 points.

PNW will stay in Hammond to play Northern Michigan on Saturday, February 5th. Tipoff is set for 1PM.
