Women's Basketball falls to Ferris State; Barnard & DeValkenaere honored

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team took a hard-fought loss at the hands of visiting Ferris State, despite sophomore guard Reagan Courier's (Delavan, Wis./Big Foot) career-best 21-point performance on Saturday. Seniors Brittany Barnard (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and Molly DeValkenaere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) donned a Pride uniform for the final time at John. Friend Court and were honored alongside their families prior to the game.

How it happened: With Ferris State (18-8, 12-6 GLIAC) leading 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and eventually owning a commanding 44-22 lead with just 1:36 remaining in the first half, PNW (8-17, 5-13 GLIAC) closed out the half on a 5-0 run on a trio of free throws from Kennedy Jackson (Carson, Calif./Redondo Union) after Elexa Roepke made a pair of her own at the 1:11 mark.

The Bulldogs then used a torrid long-range shooting performance (5-for-9) in the third quarter to lead by as many as 69-40 with 1:16 to go in the third stanza, but an Anjel Galbraith (Vallejo, Calif./Salesian College Prep) jumper and a Reagan Courier (Delavan, Wis./Big Foot) layup cut the deficit to 69-44 at the third quarter horn.

Reagan Courier (Delavan, Wis./Big Foot) then saw the fruits of the labor come to fruition with her best quarter scoring output of her PNW career when she reeled of 13 points in the fourth stanza.

The Pride outscored the Bulldogs 26-15 in the fourth quarter behind 9-for-14 shooting from the field and 4 of 7 from behind the arc.

Galbraith and Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) also tallied double-digit scoring performances for the Pride with 11 points each off the bench.

Chloe Idoni led Ferris State with 17 points.
