PNW Women's Basketball falls to Wayne State in league play

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team fell 60-48 to Wayne State on Saturday inside the Fitness & Recreation Center.

With the setback, PNW dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in league play while Wayne State earned its 10th win of the year. The Warriors are 10-4 and 6-3 against league opponents.
 
How it happened: PNW was limited to a season-low 48 points on 32% shooting in the contest. The Pride scored single digits in each of the opening two quarters before falling behind 32-17 at the halftime break.
 
The Black & Gold rallied with a 10-3 run to close the third quarter and worked its way back within single digits. Molly DeValkenaere's (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) free throws trimmed the deficit to 43-35 heading to the final period. However, the Pride went scoreless for nearly five minutes in the fourth after starting the quarter with four consecutive turnovers.
 
Both teams struggled to take care of the ball and combined for a total of 49 turnovers. Wayne State committed 20 turnovers while PNW had 19.
 
Reagan Courier (Delavan, Wis./Big Foot) led the Pride with 11 points while Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) chipped in with nine. Antreese Shelton (Elkhart, Ind./Penn) grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds including four on the offensive end.
 
Wayne State's Kate Sherwood led all scorers with 13 points and Alexis Miller added 12 for the visitors.
 
UP NEXT
PNW travels to Davenport on Thursday for a 5 p.m. EST matchup against the Panthers in Grand Rapids, Mich.
