PNW Women's Basketball drops GLIAC contest to SVSU

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team suffered a 60-49 setback to Saginaw Valley State on Thursday night inside the Fitness & Recreation Center.

PNW moved to 2-6 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and fell to 5-10 overall. SVSU improved to 10-3 (5-1 GLIAC) while winning its sixth game in seven outings.

How it happened: PNW trailed by two when a layup from Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) made it 50-48 with under three minutes left, but SVSU countered with a three on the next possession to remain out in front.

The visiting Cardinals led for the majority of the second half, but the double-digit deficit didn't come until the end of the contest as the Pride battled a cold-shooting streak to try and climb back.

PNW only led once after halftime when Anjel Galbraith's (Vallejo, Calif./Salesian College Prep) three-point play gave PNW a 32-31 advantage midway through the third period.

SVSU buckled down and outscored PNW 18-11 while limiting the Pride to only 3-of-12 (25%) shooting in the final quarter.

Antreese Shelton (Elkhart, Ind./Penn) led the Pride with a season-high 10 points and eight rebounds. The sophomore forward also logged a pair of assists and a block. Shaw finished with nine points and Reagan Courier (Delavan, Wis./Big Foot) chipped in with seven.

PNW recorded an overall shooting mark of 38% while going 9 for 16 (56%) at the free throw line. SVSU shot 43% from the field.

SVSU's Kaitlyn Zarycki led the visitors with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, along with five rebounds and five assists. Tori DePerry logged 15 points and eight rebounds while Maddie Barrie finished with 10 points and eight boards.
