Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

PNW Men's Basketball stumbles on the road

KENOSHA, Wis. – Mikell Cooper (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) scored a game-high 25 points Saturday at Parkside, but the Purdue Northwest men's basketball team fell to the host Rangers, 94-69.

HEAD COACH BOOMER ROBERTS:
"We know what is causing us to lose, but we have to fix the why. Simple things continue to hurt us. We've got good dudes who want to get it right, and we will. We haven't wavered in that belief."

How it happened: Despite Parkside leading wire-to-wire, PNW only trailed by single digits during the first half as Cooper's layup near the end of the period cut the deficit to one. Then, the Pride trailed 32-31 following a pair of free throws by Caleb Zurliene (Breese, Ill./Mater Dei) at the 1:15 mark, before the Rangers capitalized on a pair of PNW turnovers to go up 37-31 at halftime.

Overall, the Pride were outscored 34-12 on points resulting from 20 turnovers – which marked the team's highest turnover total since the season opener against William Jewell (23).

Zurliene's layup shortly after the intermission break made it 39-34 as the Pride built some momentum, but that was as close as PNW would get the rest of the way. PNW trailed by 11 at the under-12 media timeout as Kai Steinman's (Champaign, Ill./Ben Davis) trey made it 58-47. But, Parkside would put the game out of reach with a devastating 13-4 run to extend its lead to 20 with under eight minutes remaining.

Parkside outpaced the Pride 57-38 in the second half while shooting 60% from the field with nine made 3-pointers. The Rangers shot 52% overall during the contest while PNW registered a 41% shooting clip overall from the field. The Pride managed to win the rebounding battle for the first time in league play this season, 38-34.

Cooper finished 4 of 8 from three-point range, tying his season-high for made 3-pointers, while leading the Pride with 25 points and four rebounds. The junior guard leads PNW in scoring at 17.3 points per game and notched his fourth outing with 20 or more points.

Zurliene reached double digits for the eighth time with 10 points and seven boards. Anthony Barnard (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and Sangolay Njie (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) combined for 15 rebounds to power the effort on the glass.

Parkside's Tray Croft led the Rangers with 20 points while Brandon Hau contributed 19 points and nine rebounds.
