Men's Soccer continues hot start in conference play

Score: Purdue Northwest 3, St. Cloud State 1
Location:  Pepsi Field at Dowling Park (Hammond, Ind.)
Records: PNW 3-2-0 (2-0-0 GLIAC) / SCSU 1-4-1 (0-2-0 GLIAC)
 
The short story: Purdue Northwest won its third straight match following Sunday's 3-1 victory over GLIAC newcomer St. Cloud State at Dowling Park.
 
QUICK FACTS
  • PNW led 2-0 at halftime after a pair of goals from Ariel Navarro (35') and John Trollsas (39'). Alexander Oehrlein scored in the 76th minute. It was the first career goal for all three players.
  • Navarro converted a header off Isaiah Nieves' corner kick.
  • It was the seventh straight game with a point for Nieves, who tied his single-season career high with his fourth assist.
  • Nieves leads the team with 10 points this season.
  • Trollsas notched the game-winner after sending home a rebound from a Lucas Bravo Ollé' shot attempt.
  • Oehrlein made a clean run after a nice touch from Benjamin Barrette. He finished with his right foot to the far right post from 20 yards out
  • Bravo Ollé and Barrette each recorded their first assist in a PNW uniform.
  • Sebastian Contreras improved to 3-0 while making his third consecutive start in goal for the Pride.
  • PNW out-shot SCSU 8-1 in shots on target.
  • PNW has scored at least two goals in all but one game this season, including a season-high three goals on Friday and Sunday.
  • The Pride scored three goals only once in seven games last Spring.
  • The Pride are 2-0 to start conference play for the second straight season.
  • Sunday's match was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in men's soccer. PNW will make the return trip on Oct. 15.
