Women's Volleyball comes up short on the road

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Purdue University Northwest women's volleyball team fell 3-0 at Parkside Saturday afternoon in the conference opener for the Pride. The Rangers won by final set scores of 25-17, 25-20 & 25-15 inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

Freshman Riley Kraiza led the Pride with eight kills while sophomore Erica Brohm added six and senior Bryanna Moonen chipped in with five. Sophomore Summer Clark and freshman Sammie Abruzzo each recorded a team-best 11 digs. Freshman setter Olivia Brooke logged 20 assists, seven digs and three kills. Senior Caleigh Smith added eight digs.

A pair of points from sophomore Lauren Sanders, including an ace, trimmed the deficit to three in the opening set, but Parkside would move ahead by as much as eight to grab an early 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, PNW led 4-3 early on following a kill from Kraiza, and the teams went back and forth as another Sanders kill kept the Pride within two points when Parkside led 11-9. However, the hosts used an 8-2 run to build a lead that would withstand a late PNW comeback attempt after the Pride recorded five of the final seven points in the frame.

PNW recorded the opening point on Brooke's serve in the third set, but wouldn't lead again in the match.

The Pride hit .080 overall while the Rangers produced a .234 team hitting percentage and nine aces.

Parkside's Reese Rossnagel recorded eight kills to lead the Rangers, while Kaylee Kuecker registered a match-high 15 digs.
