The short story: After waiting an extra day for its home opener, Purdue Northwest came out Saturday looking strong with tons of energy against a challenging opponent in Wayne State, but the visiting Warriors outlasted the Pride 3-0 inside the Fitness & Rec Center.

PNW grabbed the early momentum and led by as much as six in the opening set with a 14-8 advantage, but the visitors stormed back with a 10-0 run. The veteran Warriors would remain in front for all but two points the rest of the afternoon.

QUICK FACTS
  • Saturday's match was the home opener for the Pride after playing nine straight road matches to start the season.
  • Three freshmen made their debut on John Friend Court including Riley Kraiza, Olivia Brooke and Sammie Abruzzo.
  • Senior Bryanna Moonen led the Pride with 10 kills – good for her second-highest total of the season and her best total in league play this season.
  • Kraiza (6), Summer Clark (5), Erica Brohm (4) and Lauren Sanders (4) contributed in the kills category.
  • Kraiza finished with the second-most points in the match with nine (6 kills, 2 aces, 2 block assists).
  • Clark recorded a season-high seven points and two aces along with tying for the team high in digs with libero Sammie Abruzzo. Both gathered nine digs in the contest.
  • Brooke finished with 25 assists, five digs and a pair of kills from her setter position.
  • PNW recorded its fourth-highest team hitting percentage through 10 matches this season. The Pride swung at a .152 clip while the Warriors hit .253 as a team.
  • The Pride held a slight edge in total aces, 7-6.
UP NEXT
PNW will travel to Michigan for five consecutive matches away from the Fitness & Rec Center. The Pride will take on Ferris State (Fri.), Davenport (Sat.) and Grand Valley State (Sun.) next weekend.
