PARK FOREST, Ill. - The Purdue Northwest women's tennis team jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles play before losing the match 5-2 to Northwood University on Saturday afternoon.

DOUBLES
All three matches in doubles play required a tiebreaker with PNW coming out on top in the top two flights to take the point.

Lena Van Bergen and Sienna Lopez took down Northwood's Amanda Bandrowski and Elizaveta Velichko 7-6 (8-6) in No. 1-doubles action.

Nicole Uzcategui and Patricia Dizon followed suit in their No. 2-doubles flight by defeating Ekaterina Vorobeva and Vasilisa Mikhaylova 7-6 (10-8).

SINGLES
PNW (5-6, 2-2 GLIAC) would only get one point in the team standings when Lopez cruised past Bandrowski 6-3, 6-3 in their No. 1-singles match.

Northwood (6-5, 3-0 GLIAC) took the five remaining singles flights for the team win, but PNW battled to make it close.

At No. 3 Singles, Dizon raced out to a 6-4 first set victory but NU's Vorobeva would edge out the final two sets, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-3, respectively.

Then, Julia Yanes-Barrera nearly pulled out the No. 5-singles match. Yanes-Barrera took Set 1, 6-3, before falling 6-1 in Set 2. Mikhaylova won the deciding set in a 10-7 tiebreaker after the team match had already been decided.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will close out the road portion of the GLIAC schedule when they travel to Grand Valley State on Friday and Ferris State on Saturday.

Friday's match with the Lakers is set to begin at 3 p.m. CDT in Allendale, Mich., before closing the weekend with a 2 p.m. CDT first serve on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
