PARK FOREST, Ill. – Purdue Northwest knocked off Davenport 6-1 in Saturday's GLIAC men's tennis action at the Park Forest Tennis Club.
With the win, PNW improved to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Davenport dropped to 7-9 (2-5 GLIAC).
DOUBLES
PNW took the doubles point with victories in the second and third flights.
Leon Kah and
Luca Kirchhoff defeated their opponents at No. 2 Doubles by a 6-2 count – improving their record to 6-1 in conference dual matches.
In addition,
Marcos Jose Diaz Gutierrez and
Jonas Franssen cruised to a 6-0 triumph at No. 3 Doubles.
At No. 1 Doubles, the Pride suffered a narrow defeat as
Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda and
Levent Evyapan fell 7-4 in a tiebreaker set.
SINGLES
PNW logged victories in five of six singles matches with the only defeat coming in a tough setback at the top flight, as DU's J.L. Van Antwerpen topped Flores in two sets.
Kah took home a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 Singles, while Kirchhoff and Diaz registered two-set wins at No. 3 Singles and No. 5 Singles, respectively.
Evyapan and Franssen responded and persevered in singles play as both dropped a second set after each player won their opening game in convincing fashion. Evyapan took the deciding set at No. 4 Singles by a 6-2 margin and Franssen delivered a 10-4 victory in the final set at No. 6 Singles.
