ASHLAND, Ohio – The Purdue Northwest men's and women's tennis teams each defeated Ashland 4-3 Tuesday at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex.
The PNW men's team improved to 7-5 overall and 4-2 against GLIAC teams. The Pride women's squad also improved its overall ledger to 6-8 (3-4 GLIAC).
In the women's match, PNW captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights.
Sienna Lopez and
Lena Van Bergen pulled out a 6-4 victory in the top doubles matchup while
Carolina Yepez and
Julia Yanes-Barrera logged a 6-1 triumph.
Yepez clinched the match later on for the Pride at No. 5 Singles. After recording a 6-1 win in the first set, she outlasted her opponent for a 7-6 tiebreaker victory in Set 2.
Van Bergen picked up a 2-0 win at No. 2 Singles, 6-2 & 6-4, while Yanes-Barrera won both sets in her victory at No. 6 Singles by a 6-2 margin.
On the men's side, PNW won the doubles point with victories at the second and third flights.
Leon Kah and
Luca Kirchhoff won 6-2 at No. 2 Doubles as Marcos Diaz and
Jonas Franssen took care of business in the No. 3 Doubles match, 6-1.
Kirchhoff edged out his opponent at No. 3 Singles in a narrow three-set decision. He won 7-5 in the opening set before falling in the second set tiebreaker. However, Luca would battle back to claim the third set 6-3 to help push the Pride to victory.
Franssen and
Levent Evyapan cruised in the No. 6 and No. 4 Singles flights, respectively. Franssen won 6-0 and 6-1 while Evyapan took home 6-1 and 6-0 victories.
